    ENTRY CRITERIA

    A beauty or grooming story told entirely through on-figure visuals.

    • Eligibility: submit one (1) sample of the best beauty shoot (print, online or tablet) from a single issue
    • Work samples should only include on-figure imagery
    • Entry must have a beauty or grooming focus. Fashion focused work samples will not be considered

     

    Judging Criteria

    Judging to be based on overall visual impact (excludes written copy).

    • Is beauty the prominent focus of the shoot?
    • Is the page visually arresting?
    • Is the visual creative and innovative in its presentation?
    • Through on-figure visuals alone, does the shoot convey a cohesive and compelling beauty story?
    • Does the makeup or hair artistry effectively complement the editorial creative vision?
    • Is the art direction exceptional?
  • BEST BEAUTY STILL LIFE

    ENTRY CRITERIA

    A beauty or grooming story told entirely through off-figure visuals

    • Eligibility: submit one (1) sample of the best still life beauty or grooming story (print, online or tablet) from a single issue
    • Work samples should only include off-figure visuals of beauty and / or beauty-related products including but not limited to cosmetics, hair and skincare products, beauty and grooming tools and accessories. Excludes illustrations.
    • Entry must have a beauty or grooming focus. Fashion focused work samples will not be considered

     

    Judging Criteria

    Judging to be based on overall visual impact (excludes written copy).

    • Is beauty the prominent focus of the story?
    • Is the page visually arresting?
    • Is the visual creative and innovative in its presentation?
    • Through off figure / still life visuals alone, does the entry effectively convey a cohesive and compelling beauty story?
    • Is the art direction exceptional?
  • BEST SERVICE EDITORIAL

    ENTRY CRITERIA

    An informative or instructional beauty or grooming story told using a combination of text and visuals.

    • Eligibility: submit one (1) sample of the best beauty or grooming service piece or package (print, online or tablet) from a single issue
    • Work samples must include a combination of text and visuals, including but not limited to beauty or grooming how-tos, trend reports etc.
    • Must include an obvious informative or instructional element
    • Entry must have a beauty or grooming focus. Fashion focused work samples will not be considered

     

    Judging Criteria

    Judging to be based on quality of written content and overall visual impact.

    • Is beauty the prominent focus of the story?
    • Is the story presented with an informative / instructional tone?
    • Is the text expertly written, demonstrating beauty subject matter expertise and sound research?
    • Does the story effectively communicate a trend or technique in a straightforward, informative manner?
    • How well do the text, photos and page layout complement each other to effectively convey a compelling beauty story?

     

  • BEST FEATURE

    ENTRY CRITERIA

    A feature story written with a focus on beauty or grooming trends, profiles or general interest topics.

    • Eligibility: submit one (1) sample of the best beauty or grooming feature (print, online, tablet) with a minimum word count of 650 words. Supporting sidebars and captions will be evaluated as part of the overall story, but the main feature must meet the minimum word count.
    • Work sample must have a focus on beauty or grooming.
    • Topics can include but are not limited to: celebrity or brand spokesperson interviews, product profiles, personal essays, cultural / societal trend profiles related to beauty practices etc.

     

    Judging Criteria

    Judging to be based on quality of written content.

    • Is this feature expertly written, demonstrating beauty subject matter expertise and sound research?
    • How engaging and informative is this feature?
    • How original is the subject matter?
    • Is beauty the most prominent element in the feature?
    • How well do the supporting text, photos and visuals complement the story?
  • BEST INNOVATION FEATURE

    ENTRY CRITERIA

    A beauty or grooming feature story written with a focus on innovation and science.

    • Eligibility: submit one (1) sample of the best beauty or grooming feature (print, online, tablet) with a minimum word count of 650 words. Supporting sidebars and captions will be evaluated as part of the overall story, but the main feature must meet the minimum word count.
    • Work sample must have a focus on beauty or grooming innovation or be of scientific interest.
    • Topics can include but are not limited to: product ingredients, new formula innovation, product evolution, ingredient safety, scientist interviews, anti-aging technology, clinical-based stories, product efficacy myth-busting, personal essays etc.

     

    Judging Criteria

    Judging to be based on quality of written content.

    • Is beauty the prominent focus of the story?
    • Is innovation or science the core element of the story?
    • Is the feature expertly written, demonstrating beauty subject matter expertise and sound research?
    • How engaging and informative is this feature?
    • How original is the subject matter?
    • How well do the supporting text, photos and visuals complement the story?
  • Best  site

    ENTRY CRITERIA

    An independent blog or website with a focus on beauty or grooming.

    • Eligibility: open to independently owned blogs or websites. Sites must have an independent URL unaffiliated with any media outlet, publishing house or corporate entity.
    • Submit three (3) URL links that best represent the site.
    • Sites must have a minimum of 8,000 unique monthly views to qualify. Submit a screen capture confirming official stats for unique monthly views.

     

    Judging Criteria

    Judging to be based on the quality of written content and overall user experience.

    • Is beauty content the predominant focus of the site?
    • How well does the blog or website deliver high quality beauty storytelling?
    •  How well do the text and site design complement each other?
    • How well does the site navigation / functionality enhance the user experience?
    • How well does the content engage the reader?
  • Best YouTube Channel

    ENTRY CRITERIA

    An independent YouTube channel with a focus on beauty or grooming.

    • Eligibility: open to any independently operated Canadian YouTube channel. Channels must have an independent URL unaffiliated with any media outlet, publishing house or corporate entity.
    • Submit the URL links to three (3) beauty videos that are each between 2 –10 minutes in length. Excludes sponsored content.
    • Videos must have a beauty or grooming focus
    • Submit official stats for number of subscribers and average video views. Channel must have a minimum of 100,000 subscribers to qualify. Videos submitted must have a minimum of 15,000 views each.
    • Entrants may submit to both the Best YouTube Channel and Best Video categories, however videos submitted to one category may not be submitted to the other.

     

    Judging Criteria

    Judging to be based on the quality and impact of original beauty content.

    • Does the YouTube channel deliver original beauty content in a unique voice?
    • How well does the channel’s content target the viewer’s attention?
    • Is the content presented clearly, demonstrating expertise in the beauty or grooming space?
    • Judges will also evaluate overall production quality (defined as lighting quality, smoothness of editing and clarity of sound)
    • Is beauty content the predominant focus of the channel?
  • Best Social Media Content

    ENTRY CRITERIA

    Use of social media platforms to tell a beauty or grooming story.

    • Eligibility: open to independent Canadian social content creators and traditional media outlets.
    • Submit the URL links to ten (10) posts that best represent your beauty storytelling, along with the respective handles. For Snapchat, submit the downloaded file.
    • Posts can include any combination of content from Instagram, Twitter, Facebook (including Facebook Live), Snapchat and / or Periscope
    • All posts will be evaluated for native content only, external links or photos will not be evaluated. (i.e. Tweeting via Instagram share function, Facebook posts linking to a magazine website article will not be considered)
    • All posts, with the exception of Snapchat, must spark relevant conversation from fans (i.e. Instagram comments / Twitter replies relating back to the post, Facebook comments)
    • Posts must have a beauty or grooming focus
    • URL links can be submitted as text in a one-page PDF document

     

    Judging Criteria

    Judging to be based on quality of video content and overall impact.

    • Is beauty content the predominant focus?
    • How well does the content communicate a compelling beauty story, using text and / or visuals?
    • How well does the content target the audience’s attention?
    • Judges will also evaluate overall production quality, defined as image quality (for photo based posts), video quality and clarity of sound (for video based posts)
  • BEST VIDEO

    ENTRY CRITERIA

    Beauty or grooming story told entirely in video form.

    • Eligibility: open to independent Canadian social content creators and traditional media outlets
    • Submit the URL link  to one (1) beauty video  that is between 2 –10  minutes in length. Excludes sponsored content.
    •  Video can  be posted to any platform i.e. website, YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook etc,
    • Submitted video must have a focus on beauty or grooming.
    • Topics can include but are not limited to: celebrity or brand spokesperson interviews, product profiles, behind-the-scenes stories, etc.
    • Entrants may submit to both the Best Video and Best YouTube Channel categories, however videos submitted to one category may not be submitted to the other

     

    Judging Criteria

    Judging to be based on quality of video content and overall impact.

    • How well does the content communicate a compelling beauty story through audio and visual content?
    • Is the content presented clearly, demonstrating expertise in connecting with the audience?
    • Does the content demonstrate beauty subject matter expertise and sound research?
    • Is beauty content the predominant focus?
    • How original is the subject matter?
    • Judges will also evaluate overall production quality (defined as lighting quality, smoothness of editing and clarity of sound) as it relates to the appropriateness for the environment in which it was presented (i.e. Facebook Live, YouTube, Web platform, etc.)

Designed to celebrate top editorial and creative talent in the Canadian beauty industry, the P&G Beauty Awards are open to Canadian beauty and grooming media, content creators, and artists.

 

The Awards recognize editorial work that exclusively showcases beauty content, produced in Canada.
